How safe is the flu vaccines for children and newborns that will be around the child?

Ashlee B asked:

I have a 5 week old baby and I am concerned that if I vaccinate my 7 year old for the flus that my baby could get sick. Can this happen? I hear if you get the flu vaccine you most likely get sick from it. Can this happen? If so do the pros out weigh the cons of flu vaccinations.

Yes, you can get sick from the vaccine. The vaccine contains a lot of preservatives that are immune-suppressing so it makes it harder for your body to fight off illness, and therefore more susceptible to illness. With everything that the vaccine contains, I would definitely say that the pros do not outweigh the cons of flu vaccinations. The vaccine also has a long list of side-effects that can have lasting complications.

I would highly suggest checking out and putting flu vaccine or vaccinations in the search box, there’s a lot of really good information on there that’s important for you to know.

Good luck, take care and God bless!

Any vaccine can suppress the immune system to the point that it is easier to catch things that are going around.

Live vaccines such as the nasal spray flu vaccine can directly cause the flu in the person who gets the vaccine, and the virus can be spread to others, even if the vaccine recipient does not get sick.

First of all, if your 5 week old is too young to get a vaccine, then I highly suggest you get the 7 year old vaccinated. Otherwise it is much more likely that he can get sick, and then cause your 5 week old to die. This has already happened numerous times with whopping cough pertussis.

Make sure you give the 7 year old the type that doesn’t use the virus derivative, but only the proteins. This one can only be in the injected form though, but it has the lower chance of making him feel bad.

You are going to get a lot of misinformation and even outright lies told to you about vaccines, so read up at to put your mind at ease. Remember, talk to your doctor and get the information from a medical professional, not some bubble-headed bleach blond actress.
