How will health care reform effect wages of health care workers?
TLB asked:
Im currently in college obtaining a degree in communication disorders, and then will obtain my masters to become a speech language pathologist. I am worried we will convert over to socialized medicine (for lack of a better term) by then and my wages will be next to nothing. Does anyone have any ideas how health care reform will effect wages in the health care industry?

It will lower them as the bills are being proposed.~!
I’m not sure, but have heard medical school enrollment is way down…..you know the government will eventually dictate wages too.
Countries with more socialized medicine have doctors that make roughly the same as they do here, only they have lower overhead and much, much, much less cheaper malpractice insurance.
In HR3200 – There is legislation that will cap Dr’s and staffs pay.
There is also pages that mandate Hospitals to get Community groups approval and a fed Lisincies to build or expand hostpitals.
HR3200 is The Foundation for a single payer system-
Funnier – i heard Sen Rangle Say in commity on Cspan “there are over 1300 health care insurence Companies in the us” – CAli has access to 6 – ky has Access to 5 – *** maybe you can fix health without spendign 1 cents by simply removing the legistlation Preventing Companies from allowing them to sell across state lines.
An the 10th Add. Will hold because If State legislation is Affecting the country as a whole then this is what the FED GOV is for to protect the people not rule – You Wanna know what president Barrac an the left wing STand for – Read the Communist manifesto, Karl Marxs.
“Democracy is the Road to socialism”(marx, Carl)
– That is why THE US IS A CONSTITUTIONAL Republic., We vote for are Public servants.
if you Really want to End poverty – Flat Tax 6% accross the board and in 20 Years the industial, manufactureing Jobs come back – The more demand for jobs increases the Wages – Why would DemocRATes Would every want to fix poverty – if there is no more poor then they have no more power.
It’s really Sad Government has been regulating the Education systems for over 60 years an its still crap. – Teacher’s are recieving lesson plans and scripts what to Say. Where is the news media,
Job loss Since Reagan , Poverty is worse every with every president since Reagan – Sorry Obama Ran as a conservative – but he is a Marxist.
Yes All obama Szars are unconstitional – Nixon Resinged before being impeach so dont use him to defend obama, Don’t Defend health Care, if you have not read HR3200, Don’t Tell me hes not a socialist if you HAven’t Read the communest Manifesto- Educate your self them make Your own Rational Educated Desicions. WE all ALL americans First. END PARTY Politics – United we Stand divided we fall.
They will be required to work harder because everyone with a bump or bruise will be going to the hospital. And they will be paid less because under a Socialistic system there is a lot less money to go around.
Obama’s health care plan will be written by a committee whose head says hedoesn’t understand it,
passed by a Congress that hasn’t read it and whose
members will be exempt from it,
signed by a president who smokes,
funded by a treasury chief who did not pay his taxes,
overseen by a surgeon general who is obese,
and financed by a country that is broke.
Wages? Better find a new career.
What could possibly go wrong?
Count on lower wages if there is no change in the current system. I work as an interpreter with speech therapists; their salaries have not risen in three years to compensate for increased premiums of the portion of their health insurance that their employer pays and for the increased portion that they must pay of their premiums.
As people spend more on health care, there is less money to spend on consumption. Spending in the US economy is 70% consumption. For there to be income to purchase goods and services not related to health care, the cost of health care must come down. The cost per capita of health care in the US is about twice what it is in countries that cover all their citizens and that report better outcomes that does our profit-driven system.
In short, controlling or, better, lowering the cost of health care in the US to levels closer to those of countries with better overall outcomes than our system produces will likely result in an increase in your take-home wage, all else being equal.
I say “all else being equal,” because demand is the major driver of wages: the greater the need for speech pathologists, the likelier it is that you will earn more. From my experience, the fact that we hire speech pathologists where I work and that–in this market–we are looking for more competent speech therapists, as we call them, bodes well for your choice of career.
