What should I wear to my son’s IEP meeting tomorrow? Do certain colors say certain things about me?

IEP
Mama J. asked:

I am wondering if it makes any difference how I dress for a meeting at my son’s school tomorrow to discuss his IEP and accomodations. I am wondering what I should wear, and is it important to avoid certain colors and what certain colors would say about me?

Sorry mom but this is about your son not you. Dress professionally, clean and well groomed.

i would look business like with a smart white blouse and a black skirt or black slacks and i would have coat if its preoper if its not cold then dont’. i would just be very careful what i said and then they will treat you with respect and talk to you good. if you wear red i would be very careful on that color yellow pink or anything like that brown is ok and grey is ok darker colors and not looking too conspicious.

colors to avoid: yellow, pink, green, blue, orange
basically any bright colors, they attract attention.

Colors don’t “say” anything about you, but they can attract attention.

Things to not wear are just the obvious: Is this really professional? If yes, then denum is just not professional.

I would think something like those. ^^^

Or just a white blouse and black pants.
    Accesories like small dangling earring
NO HOOPS! people get the wrong “image” of you for some reason

If you can get a white blouse with a black belt looking thing, it would be cute.

    good luck!!

Nothing says “conservative Mom” like a beige sweater set and a small strand of pearls. Hair casually pulled back. Dark trousers or knee length skirt, sensible shoes. Easy on the make-up and perfume.

Considering how teachers and school staff dress these days… I would go in whatever is clean and comfortable – even if that means jeans and a t-shirt. I’ve been to enough IEP meetings, and never even thought about how to dress for them. It’s about your child and his/her needs, not about how you look or what you’re wearing. It won’t help in getting services for your child, nor will the teachers or staff care – everyone’s concerns should be focused on your child and his/her needs – that’s what an IEP is for – Individualized Education Plan – not how does the mom look.

After years of attending ARD meetings to discuss an IEP I thought I had seen and heard it all from parents, but obviously I was wrong.
Teachers, principals, speech therapists, counselors, psychologists,
OT’s, PT’s and diagnosticians won’t even notice what you wear as long as it’s clean and appropriate for a school setting. Genuine concern about your child will say more about you than any color you choose to wear.
