What is the difference between the FAA’s CASS, IEP, and SMS?
The FAA requires that all air operators (airlines and charter companies) have a “Continuing Airworthiness & Surveillance System (CASS)”. Also, available are the voluntary “Internal Evaluation Program (IEP)” and the soon-to-be required “Safety Management System (SMS)”. All are concerned with air safety for commercial operators. However, what are the main differences in these two systems and one program?
